Someone He Admires.....

If you read my posting on Monday, you know that Nolan had to dress up like "someone he admires who doesn't make any money."

This morning, his mother sent me a picture. I think his Uncle Bobby will be proud.

Catholic Schools Week

This is Nolan Urbanski - 1st born grandchild - 7 years old and in the first grade at Corpus Christi Grade School in South Bend, Indiana.

This is Uncle Bobby. Former Marine and Iraqi War Veteran.

And this is the telephone conversation from over the weekend...

"Ummmmm, Uncle Bobby? Ummmmmm, next week is Catholic Schools week and can I borrow some of your Marine stuff? We have to dress up. Ummmmmm, we have to dress up like somebody we admire, but doesn't make any money".

At this point, his mother grabbed the phone and explained that it's supposed to be someone they admire that "isn't famous".

The One Who Made Me "GRAND"......

Seven years ago today, I went from being the mother of seven to being the grandmother of one. Nolan Joseph Urbanski was born on September 5, 2001 and Bob and I became grandparents. It wasn't so hard to accept the fact that I was a grandmother - but being married to someone's grandpa was a different story.

Brothers.....

Looking at these sweet photos of Nolan and Jack, you'd never guess that a few weeks ago Jack hit Nolan in the mouth with a wiffle ball bat and gave him a fat lip - and then this past weekend, Jack punched Nolan in the mouth and knocked out his already loose front tooth. Please note that neither one of these incidents happened on "grandma watch".

The Graduate.....

This afternoon, Nolan Urbanski (my first born grandchild) graduated from Kindergarten. I took a LATE lunch and attended the short program. All those years I used to arrive EARLY and hope to save good seats - now, my daughter is a teacher at Corpus Christi. I arrived one minute before "showtime" and Mrs. Urbanski had a front row seat staked out for grandma.

So, the program was only about 20 minutes long - filled with lots of songs. Cameras were flashing, video was rolling and those kids put on quite the show.

Grandparent's Day

Today was "Grandparent's Day" at Corpus Christi - my very first one. Bob and I decided that we were definately the YOUNGEST grandparents in the gym. We were treated to coffee and donuts and then some songs by the Kindergarten students (Nolan) and the 4th graders. After the entertainment, we went to Nolan's classroom where he showed us his desk and all the stuff that makes learning FUN. We even stopped by Mrs. Urbanski's 3rd grade room to see our oldest in action. It's still hard to believe that after graduating seven kids from this school, we now have grandchildren there and our first born teaching there.

Little Boys and Baseball

Is there anything cuter than a little boy with a glove and a bat? We went to Nolan's t-ball game on Saturday morning and his face lit up when he saw Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Kevin in the stands. T-ball is a whole DIFFERENT ballgame - only 3 innings, everyone bats and no one keeps score. AND, once the game is over -everyone shakes hands, grabs their treat ticket and heads to the concession stand for the biggest decision they'll make all day.

Happy Birthday Nolan!!!!

Today, my first born grandchild turns 5 years old. He's celebrating with his mom and dad and brother and sister at DisneyWorld. They're spending their day at the Magic Kingdom and tonight, they have reservations for dinner at Chef Mickey's. What a great way for a little boy to spend his birthday!!!

We love you Nolan!

Nolan, Grace and Jack

Memorial Day was spent watching Uncle Kevin and the Colonials play in the first round of the South Bend Baseball Sectionals.

Nolan, Grace and Jack haven't missed many games this spring - and Monday night, they even got their Dad to come!!!

There wasn't a seat to hold Grace and Nolan in place, but Jack just sat and took it all in. What a good baby he is!!!!!!!

Out of the Mouths of Babes...

To give you a little background - Nolan has been a pretty consistant fan at Uncle Kevin's high school games this spring. Aside from Uncle Kevin, he's got his eye on Kevin's teammate - Josh Willis. Now any little boy would idolize Josh - he's big and strong and he hits LOTS of homeruns. (Uncle Kevin is skinny and wirey and gets base hits).

So, over the weekend, Carrie is trying to get Nolan to drink milk - which he just won't do. She told him that if he drank milk he would hit homeruns at his t-ball games. After thinking about this for a minute, he said "does Josh Willis drink milk?" Of course Carrie assured Nolan that Josh must drink LOTS of milk, because he's hit so many homeruns. Nolan looked very interested and then responded, "Uncle Kevin doesn't drink milk."

....Uncle Kevin wasn't the least bit amused.

It Must Be Spring...

Temperatures are in the 70's, the sun is shining, the grass is turning green, and the ball gloves have been brought out. From the looks of these photos, Nolan's got a new ball glove just in time for his first t-ball practice, and from the smile on his face, it looks like he's ready for a fun summer.

Hopefully the Urbanski/Knight baseball blood will run through his veins. His dad and his Uncle Johnny should turn him into quite the pitcher some day!

This will be Kelli's last year to play Little League - at the Junior Level, and now we'll be starting all over again - watching our grandchildren!!

Trick or Treat

Here's our little pink dragon ...

...and one cocky pirate.

Pumpkin Patch

Here's Nolan and Grace on their yearly trek to the pumpkin patch with mom and dad. Looks like Nolan found his pumpkin...and Grace is just a little overwhelmed from the look of things.
