Reflections...

I spent the first 25 years of my life in a small town in southern Illinois - Greenville (an hour east of St. Louis on I. 70) My dad worked for the post office and my mom operated a daycare. I attended Central School (which was long ago demolished), Greenville Jr. High (which has also been demolished) and Greenville High School (home of the Comets). I lived on the west end of town - within walking distance of the library. Life was so much simpler then - we walked or rode our bikes just about everywhere. I spent many a day at Susie Fraenkel's house playing with our Barbie dolls - she always had nicer one's than me and she had the Barbie house. I also remember that she had a colored television, while we still had black and white. (Today, how many colored televsions do we have in our house??) Like I said - a much simpler time.

I "shared" a car with my mom when I turned 16. Our summers were spent at the Sportsman Club - where we "baked" in the sun and cooled off in the lake. In high school, my best friends were Dawn Turley, Jackie Oakley and Marilyn Wall.

Bob and I met during our junior year of high school, when his family moved from St. Louis to Greenville. Our first date was a St. Louis Cardinal baseball game in the old Busch Stadium (which was demolished last year).

After high school, Bob attended Kaskaskia Jr. College to play baseball and I attended Greenville College as an education major.

I remember as a college cheerleader, posing for our media guide atop this brick wall in front of the college. After college, Bob and I married and settled down in Greenville. I worked at the elementary school, and Bob worked for the Kroger Company.

When our twins came along in 1980 (and joined Carrie and Bobby), I became a stay at home mom. A few more years and several Kroger transfer laters - we ended up in South Bend, Indiana - and have called this "home" for nearly 20 years.

Celebrating with Kevin...

Tonight, we celebrated Kevin's 19th birthday with his brother and sisters. It's not often I can get a good photo of all of them together. I did tonight!!!

Growing Up Too Fast....

After 9 years of school uniforms, Kelli started high school last week - in her choice of clothes. New hairstyle thanks to her sister, a new wardrobe thanks to a summer babysitting job and new contacts. She's ready to "rule the school" - or rule as much as a little freshman can rule. Class Reunion

We just got our invitation to our class reunion - Greenville High School (Greenville, Illinois) Class of '71 (yeah, I know I'm old). So, I've been doing a lot of reminiscing - and over the weekend I watched one of my favorite movies from my high school years. I was a junior in high school when I first set my sights on a much younger Robert Redford and I was in LOVE!!

'>http://

Happy Birthday Kevin!

He can't possibly be 19 years old!! Wasn't I just holding that little baby in my arms? Today, he towers over me, but is never too old to wrap his arms around my neck and tell me that he "loves me".

Why do they have to grow up so fast? When they're babies, you can't wait for them to crawl and then to walk and then to start school. Before you know it, they're off to high school and driving and then leaving for college.

His room still has "signs" of youth - old little league trophies and even some stuffed Mickey Mouses from frequent Disney vacations - but he's no longer a little kid.

We love you Kevin and your entire family wishes you a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY".

Summer's Swan Song

Summer's coming to an end and fall is just around the corner. I'm always a little sad to see summer end - the days are getting shorter - the mornings and evenings are cooler. But then again, football season (the Irish) is just around the corner, and believe it or not, I've already started my Christmas shopping.

Kelli's started high school last week and Kevin startes college next week. Our house will become a little bit quieter. (Not our lives - just our house).

So....in a couple of weeks, we'll officially say "goodbye" to summer and "welcome" to fall here in northern Indiana

Kevin, Bobby and the IRISH....

Kevin and Bobby may be ten years apart in age, but the two of them grow closer each and every day. The greatest love they share...Notre Dame football. From September until November, Kevin spends his weekends with Bobby cheering on the IRISH.

Well, Kevin's in for a real treat in two weeks - he's flying to Atlanta with Bobby and two of Bobby's friends to watch Notre Dame take on Georgia Tech in the first game of the season. I know it will be a weekend that neither of them will ever forget, and it does my heart good to see the two of them sharing this memory together.

Red Letter Day...

A few years ago, she was just a little kid bugging her brother on a Florida vacation. Today, she's still that same little sister (bugging her brother), but she's no little kid.

Today....she starts high school. The last one. She doesn't realize it yet - but I do - just how fast these next four years will fly by.

She was up at 5:30 - so excited!! She had stuff to decorate her locker with, a new PINK binder, and of course she's been picking out the perfect clothes combination for a week! Her dad's picking her up at 3:00, because he doesn't want her riding the bus. Carrie's comment on this?? "I rode that dang bus for two years and he wasn't worried about ME!!" Yeah....but you weren't the "baby".

Have a great day Kelli - and enjoy every moment of the next four years!

Wedding Weekend

Our family enjoyed a beautiful wedding last night in Michigan - a college friend of Katie and Colleen's. The site was the Blue Dress Barn near St. Joseph, Michigan. The wedding was held in the garden and the reception in a huge old barn - like nothing I'd ever seen before. Please enjoy the photos from Jeff and Katie's beautiful evening.
